When Cristina Moreno (Shelbie Bruce) is trying to determine who has been the most influential person in her life for an admissions essay she cites her mother and remembers her experience with the Clasky family. John Clasky (Adam Sandler) is a highly successful chef, his wife Debra (Tea Leoni) is a high strung woman with a lot of issues. While looking for child care assistance one woman, Flor (Paz Vega), captures her attention, despite the fact that she speaks no English. The resulting misadventures of the Clasky family with Flor and her daughter are the basis for the memory that Flor's daughter recalls all those years later for her essay. The outcome of their summer spent together proves that communication is even possible beyond the lines of language, whether English, Spanish, or 'Spanglish'.
