Directed by Francis Ford Coppola, “Apocalypse Now” (1979) is centered around a U. S. commando named Willard (Martin Sheen) who, during the Vietnam War, is sent on a mission by his superiors to assassinate a high-ranking officer named Kurtz (Marlon Brando) who has gone insane in the depths of the jungle and no longer responds to orders. After an iconic helicopter attack on a Vietnamese outpost, Willard begins traveling upstream on a river boat manned by the commander “Chief” Phillips (Albert Hall), Cajun Engineman (Frederic Forest), surfer Lance (Sam Bottoms), and young “Mr. Clean” (Laurence Fishburn) into the depths of the jungle... and of madness, along the way losing faith in his mission and in the sense of the conflict.
