Peter Sanderson (Steve Martin) is a workaholic tax attorney, who has also separated from his wife and is looking for some romance and consolation. Peter corresponds with a woman that he meets online, and after seeing a picture of her he agrees to go out with her. When he meets Charlene Morton (Queen Latifah) he realizes that he has been duped by her, as she as not the person he thought she was. Charlene wants his help in getting false bank robbery charges against her dropped. While Peter is at first very skeptical, Charlene is very persuasive and fun and before long he finds himself involved in her case even as he continues to work with some headaches at his job. Though he first wants to get rid of Charlene he eventually gets right down in to her world, even going undercover in 'the hood' to get some crucial evidence in her favor. 'Bringing Down the House' is a hilarious romp across the barriers of two distinctly different and generally very separated cultures, which finds both Peter and Charlene learning something new when they end up as friends.
